Lisa Coulter is one of Canada’s most accomplished and influential reining horse trainers, competitors, and advocates. Originally from Princeton, BC, and later based in Vernon, Coulter has built an international reputation through her success in competition, dedication to horse development, and commitment to growing the sport of reining in Canada.

A lifelong horse enthusiast, Coulter explored a variety of disciplines as a young rider before discovering that reining perfectly combined the speed, athleticism, and precision she loved. After overcoming setbacks early in her career, she established herself as a respected trainer and competitor, earning numerous national and international achievements. Coulter represented Canada on the world stage at the 2010 World Equestrian Games in Lexington, Kentucky, and was a long-time member of the Canadian Reining Team. In 2009, she helped Canada capture team and individual silver medals at the World Equestrian Games reining test event. Her partnership with notable horses such as Hollywood Ace and Western Whiz showcased her ability to develop and compete elite reining athletes.

In 2013, Coulter made history as the inaugural USA Reining Open Division Reserve Champion, becoming one of the top-ranked riders in the newly established series. Riding the Quarter Horse gelding Western Whiz, she demonstrated Canada’s ability to compete successfully against the best reiners in North America. That same year, she also helped break new ground for inclusivity in the sport by coaching two-time U.S. Paralympian Rebecca Hart during North America’s first Para-Reining demonstration event at the AQHA World Championship Show.

Beyond competition, Coulter has been an active leader within Reining Canada and Equine Canada, serving on committees dedicated to athlete development and sport growth. Passionate about mentorship and accessibility, she continues to champion opportunities for riders of all ages and abilities, helping shape the future of Canadian reining.
