Madison Bizal is a prominent defenseman for PWHL Montreal in the Professional Women’s Hockey League. A native of Elk River, Minnesota, she showcased her skills early on while playing high school hockey for the Elk River Elks, where she accumulated 40 goals and 66 assists for a total of 106 points. Her impressive performance caught the attention of numerous college recruiters, highlighting her poise, strong skating abilities, and high hockey IQ.
In 2018, Bizal joined the Ohio State Buckeyes on a Division 1 scholarship. Her tenure at Ohio State was marked by her resilience and determination, especially when she faced her biggest challenge: being diagnosed with nodular lymphocyte-predominant Hodgkin lymphoma, a rare form of blood cancer. Despite the diagnosis, she remained steadfast in her dream of playing professional hockey, balancing a demanding Division I hockey schedule, a full academic course load, and regular cancer treatments without missing a game.
Bizal made a remarkable comeback by scoring a goal in her first game after her diagnosis, leading her team to a 3-2 victory against the Badgers. In 2022, even while undergoing treatment, she achieved the pinnacle of collegiate success by winning a national championship. Throughout her five years at Ohio State, she was also recognized as an ACHA All-American Scholar for maintaining a GPA of at least 3.75 in all five years she played at Ohio state. Bizal graduated with a major in Sport Industry.
In the 2023 PWHL Draft, Madison Bizal was selected by Montreal in the eighth round, a testament to her skills and potential at the professional level. Her journey from a high school standout to a resilient collegiate athlete and now a professional player continues to inspire many in the hockey community.
