Rich Sutter, born in Viking Alberta, is a former professional ice hockey player who contributed to the Sutter family legacy being one of six brothers to play in the NHL. Rich's journey from the small town of Vegreville to a successful NHL career reflects a dedication to the sport that runs deep in the Sutter family.

Growing up in Viking, Sutter, like his brothers, developed a passion for hockey from an early age. He led the Lethbridge Broncos to a WHL championship in 1983 and a Memorial Cup appearance. His commitment to the game and undeniable talent led to his selection by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 1st round (10th overall) of the 1982 NHL Entry Draft.

Sutter played 874 games over his 13-year career, during which he played for the Pittsburgh Penguins, Philadelphia Flyers, Vancouver Canucks, St. Louis Blues, Chicago Blackhawks, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Toronto Maple Leafs. Throughout his career, he played with brothers Brent and Ron, and was coached by brothers Brian and Darryl.

After retiring from professional hockey in 1995, he remained connected to the game through various roles in coaching and player development. As of the 2020–21 NHL season he is a pro scout for the Columbus Blue Jackets.
